Batman Sues Over … Batman
By Jon "Ogre" Henry • Nov 14th, 2008 • Category: Geek Commentary (New Whenever!)
On my mindless quest to find things online I came across an article that might just make every one wet them selves a little. Huseyin Kalkan, a turkish Mayor, is reportedly suing Chris Nolan and Warner Bros. over the use of the name “Batman” in the blockbuster The Dark Knight. He said and I Quote:
“There is only one Batman in the world,” Kalkan said.
“The American producers used the name of our city without informing us.”
Yes thats right Kalkan is the Mayor of the town Batman, Turkey and is looking for compensation through Warner Bros. because of the “illegal” use of the name. Kalkan also goes on in saying that his towns name was Batman before the release of the character in 1939, and he has “proof”.
One last snippet before I go, Kalkan, our begrudged mayor, in his statement that there have been murders in his town because of the use of the name Batman. That because of the movie Nolan directed the rate of female suicide has gone up in the town do to it’s psychological impact.
I look forward to see if the gentleman from Turkey gets any headway with his allegations or if the mayor of Batman is just looking for a pay out from Nolan’s and Ledger’s near Billion earnings.
