Did You Know?
By Tuck • Sep 1st, 2009 • Category: Geek Commentary (New Whenever!)Recently, I had the honor of serving on PCTV’s staff as we helped implement the first Pittsfield Public Schools District Convocation that was held in two places simultaneously, using the city’s ability to send live video between two schools. It was a very cool process to go through, and was an interesting backdrop for the view that I am about about to share. The District’s Superintendent, Dr. Howard “Jake” Eberwine III, ran through a very interesting, thoughtful, and intense selection of videos in his Keynote presentation to the Pittsfield teachers and faculty. One such video can be found below. (A Note to our International Fans – this video has a notable U.S. angle in it’s presentation. This does not negatively affect the interest generated by the facts presented herein, but it does color the way the information is presented.)
The video, produced in 2008, was cleared designed to shake up the conceptions of people in America about our global positioning. Dr. Eberwine seemed, at least from my chair, to be trying to shake up the teachers, helping them consider the world that they’re students will be entering after leaving the school system. I know the video shook me up – the impact of the information contained are rather evocative, and it has a lot of Geek interest.
The video ends with a question: So What Does It All Mean? I would like to posit this question to all of you – what does this all mean? Are these just interesting facts on the growth of human kind, or is there a bigger, deeper meaning? And if there is a greater meaning, how does it impact Geeks into the future?
