Tuck – “The Moderator”
Name: Matthew Jared Tucker
D.O.B.: July 23, 1983
Day Job: Community Television Production Technician
Tuck always knew that he was destined to be a Geek. The first Star Trek: The Next Generation episode he ever saw live was “Too Short a Season” in early 1988. His first research project in elementary school was about Star Wars. At recess every day, he led a group of like-minded you lads in an imaginative romp through whatever the Geek medium of the era was – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman: The Animated Series, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers – the number of times Tuck and his friends (which included a bespectacled young Chris) saved the world was beyond measure. And when the other kids told him that Ghostbusters was for little kids, he stalwartly carried his ectometer in his backpack, knowing they were wrong.
Since those tender days, Tuck has grown up, but his love for the Geeking of his youth has never aged a day. This passion is what lead him to create the original Geeks With Issues radio show during his time at college. This program, which has the honor of being on of WSKB 89.5 FM’s longest running shows, started the Geek discussion. But when Tuck left college, the conversation didn’t end for him…in fact, as he settled into his job at Pittsfield Community Television, knew that GwI had a greater destiny…and a Basement of Dreams that needed to be built.
Outside of the show, Tuck is a happy Geek husband and father. He hosts a role-playing game night every Sunday in his kitchen. He pines over Warhammer 40k models he can’t afford, and over a Warhammer Fantasy army that he’d slowly worked on for the past 3 years. His computer is like a member of the family. He fights to focus on the latest geeky news, all the while reality swirls around him. And he eagerly looks forward to the day that he can begin to share his love of all things Geek with his daughter.
